Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of different podcasts. I turn them on when I take Kidd for walks and sometimes when I’m working or driving. Here are the 7 Podcasts that I can’t get enough of right now.
Car Talk | NPR
I remember listening to Car Talk when I was younger. My dad loved the show and I always found the brothers who host the show so entertaining. I didn’t know anything about cars then and I still don’t, but I just love listening to the banter of the show. Plus, they answer some great questions. The show is a formatted as a call in radio show, where people ask the brothers car related questions. Even if you don’t care about cars, just give this one a try. It’s so easy to get caught up in it. NPR is airing the “Best of Car Talk” episodes right now, but it will only be running until September of this year. I’m sure they’ll still be available to listen to, but they won’t be releasing weekly episodes after September.
Stuff You Missed in History Class | HowStuffWorks
I was never really interested in History when I was growing up, but I find this podcast is so interesting. They cover topics that are actually entertaining – like Genghis Khan’s kickass great-granddaughter, or the Jamaica’s Maroon Wars, the New London School Explosion and more. The hosts do a fantastic job unearthing interesting facts and telling the stories in a such a way that you can’t help but listen.
Stuff Mom Never Told You | HowStuffWorks
Another one from HowStuffWorks, this one talks about all the business of being a woman. They cover kickass females, womens history, how the female body works, feminism, life as a female… really anything and everything that involves women. I like the variety on the show and I like the way the hosts interact. Give it a listen. With all the different topics, it’s incredibly easy to find an episode that appeals to you.
My Favorite Murder | Feral Audio
I know this sounds horrible. But, this is probably my favorite podcast right now. It’s a true crime show and they tackle a new murder every episode. I know it’s difficult to believe, but it’s actually a really funny show. A funny show about true crime murders. I realize that’s a bit of an oxymoron. But… it’s truly a great balance of horror and humor. Honestly though, who would want to listen to a depressing show about murder? You kind of need the humor to make it palatable. If you like watching the ID Channel or true crime shows, give this one a listen.
How I Built This | NPR
How I Built This interviews a new business owner every week and dives into the story of how they became a success. They’ve featured the founders of AirBnB, Atari, Southwest Airlines, Patagonia, Clif Bars, Kate Spade and hundreds more. They do a great job of choosing people who have fantastic stories and I love to hear about their crazy journeys.
Money Girl | Quick and Dirty Tips
I used to listen to Dave Ramsey’s podcast about person finance, but lately I’ve really been enjoying Money Girl. Money Girl is hosted by Laura D. Adams and every week she covers a different personal finance topic. I like how it’s not just a show about getting out of debt; she covers everything money related. Things like life insurance, how to fill out tax forms, retirement accounts, ways to invest, the different type of credit cards… really it if it involves money, she’s talked about it. I find it very informative and I just like listening to her talk. She’s very relaxing.
This American Life | NPR
The third NPR podcast on my list. Clearly, NPR knows what they’re doing. I listen to this one if the mornings with my fiancé. It’s kind of like a podcast version of Humans of New York. Each episode has a theme and they cover multiple stories of average american people that relate back to that theme. It’s what I think of as classic NPR.
