Dashing Dinos: My First 5k

Dashing Dinos: My First 5k

Well, I did it. I finished my first 5k. I’ve run 3 miles before, but never in an actual race. Yesterday morning my friend Jacquelline and I ran Michigan State University Federal Credit Union’s 30th Annual Dinosaur Dash. It’s a 5k race that benefits the MSU Museum and it was crazy fun.

Jacquelline is one of the reasons I got into running (Lindsay over at Veggie Balance is the other) and she’s a little speed demon. She pushed me to sign up and I’m so glad I did it. It was much easier to tackle the race with her cheering me on.

I actually beat my best 5k time by over 2 minutes. My shaved about a minute off of my best 1 mile time too. It was definitely the adrenaline. The course wound through campus and was pretty flat, so that was great. I don’t think I would have done nearly as well if I had to run uphill a lot.

I’m already itching to run another race. The atmosphere was so electric – it felt amazing. Ivan went with us and acted as our photographer. He was even affected by it – he wants to run a 5k with me now. Honestly, if you haven’t run a race before, I highly suggest it. It’s so rewarded afterward and you usually get a ballin t-shirt.

How awesome! Way to go for doing your first 5K! I have never been in an “organized run” before!

    • It was so exciting! I ran faster than I ever have and everyone was so encouraging. I ended up in the middle of the pack – which is fine. I knew I wouldn’t be super fast lol

  • Congrats! What a great achievement! :)

  • you go girl! congrats :) i totally agree, my husband doesn’t understand why i love races so much (especially because getting there / parking / picking up packets etc can be a pain) but it’s all about the atmosphere!

    • this one was a nice introduction for me. It was about 5 minute drive from my house, parking was easy/free & we were able to pick up the packets the day before. I know it won’t ALWAYS be that easy, but it was a nice introduction. I wasn’t running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to figure everything out :)
