Girls Weekend in D.C.

Girls Weekend in D.C.

I spent this past weekend in D.C. with two of my best friends from High School. My friend Lizzy is living there working at a health clinic and she was a great tour guide. Getting there was a bit of a challenge. Our 8am flight out of Detroit was delayed until 11:30 because of freezing rain. They shutdown the entire airport and it really through a wrench in our morning.

We still were able to fit everything we wanted into the weekend. Here are some of my highlights.

On the first day we went to the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the WWII memorial and the White House.

If you go to see the Lincoln Memorial, be sure to walk around to the other side. There wasn’t anyone back there and it was absolutely beautiful. You get a great view of Arlington and DC.IMG_5263 IMG_5311

That night we had dinner reservations in Georgetown. We went to this fantastic place called Farmers, Fishers, Bakers. I had the pork tacos (so good!), a side of Mexican street corn and we split the table side guacamole. Liz had the Farmer chicken and Alyson had some sort of white fish. She said it was amazing.

Day two was museum day. We went to the National Archives, the National Museum of American History, The Smithsonian Air and Space and The National Sculpture Gardens.

We also saw the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and an original copy of the Magna Carta. Pretty fantastic, I must say.

We also went to the National Museum of American History, where we saw the original Star Bangled Banner. We couldn’t photograph it though. We also saw Ruby’s slippers, Ali’s gloves, The Greensboro Lunch Counter and Jackie O and Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Ball Gowns. They have a gown from every First Lady.IMG_5418 IMG_5425 IMG_5426 IMG_5427That night we walked to Fireworks – a pizza place in Arlington. We had an appetizer there that was amazing – garlic bread donuts. I really don’t know why I’ve never seen these before.

It was an extremely packed weekend, but it was so fun. The three of us haven’t been together for over a year and it was fantastic to be able to catch up. Plus, I got to visit D.C. for the first time!

sidenote… like that sweater I’m wearing in the dinner pic? It’s from CATO! I’ve got a $25 Cato gift card up for grabs right now!
