H54F: The Big Apple & The Big Diamond

1. New York Was Fantastic
Last weekend we spent 38 hours in NYC. It was our first time visiting and we had an absolute blast. Checkout my quick recap post, my post on crossing the Brooklyn Bridge & my mini When Harry Met Sally tour.

2. We’re Going to the Gold Cup!
We’ve been hemming and hawing about whether or not we should make the quick drive down to Baltimore on Saturday for the Gold Cup semifinals. Ivan’s a huge soccer fan and is really looking forward to it. We’d have preferred to go to Philly for the finals, but that takes place on a Sunday night and we’d have to make the long drive back after the game because Ivan has work at 8am on Monday. We’ve never been to Baltimore though and I’m pretty excited about visiting.

3. Great Deals at Goodwill
I went to goodwill on Tuesday because it’s always 25% and I had a credit from bringing a shirt back. I picked up two really cute pieces; a fun sparkly tank from Ann Taylor and a coral mini skirt of appropriate length from F21 – shocking I know. With my return credit I spent a grand total of $4. I just love goodwill.

4. The National Museum of National History
On Wednesday I took a bus down to the National Museum of National History. It was my first time at that particular Smithsonian and it was pretty interesting. My favorite part of the museum was the human history  They’ve got an extensive display on evolution and it was pretty incredible to see the changes. They got Lucy there and a skeleton of a “Hobbit” (Homo floresiensis). You can walk through an area that has models of the heads and faces of all the found species. They have them set at the average height for the time period and it’s pretty crazy to see just how small they really were. I honestly enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Plus, they’ve got the Hope Diamond ;)

5. Dangerously Delicious Pies
Last night we walked down to Dangerously Delicious Pies for the first time. It’s supposed to be the best place to get pies in DC. It was good, but I honestly like the Grand Traverse Pie Company better. Maybe it was just the pies we tried – I had strawberry rhubarb and Ivan had sweet potato. Next time we’ll try to different ones and see if we like them more. Don’t get me wrong, they were good, but they weren’t that good.

    1. it’s every Tuesday here… I think it might be a DC thing. But… I’d just ask. Other Goodwills might do it on another day. And yeah.. I should have done a bit of research. Apparently there “baltimore bomb” pie is the best. It was featured on “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” on the food network. I just ordered the wrong pie. Oh well, guess I’ll have to go back ;)

  1. The Pies! They look so delicious. And the natural history museum is one of my favorites, too! My second favorite is the Portrait Gallery. Seeing all the Presidential portraits hanging up is really cool! Hope you had a fun weekend!
