Life Lately – May 2017

Life Lately – May 2017

So this past month has been rather crazy. Sorry about the lack of posts, it’s been hectic around here. I kicked off the month with a fantastic birthday week. My birthday is on May 7th and Ivan’s is on the 10th, so   we treated ourselves to a joint birthday week.

First we saw the Diamondbacks take on the Nationals, twice.

Then we went to a Cinco De Mayo festival with some friends. There was Mexican wrestling and Mexican bingo. Can’t go wrong there. Plus I ate my weight in street corn. Have you had it before? It’s my favorite.

For my birthday we went to an Italian restaurant down the street and then capped off the night with a tres leches cake. It’s a vanilla cake soaked in milk. Sooooo good.

I also had a brunch date at my favorite restaurant in Old Town, Taverna Cretekou. The garden patio is absolutely heavenly. I took my friend there for her birthday dinner late in the month too. But we will get to that.

Ivan and I also went to a local movie theater to watch the Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. fight. I’m not super into boxing, but I love Canelo. Watching a match always makes me cringe, but I can’t really look away either. It’s almost like watching a train wreck.

I also went back to Michigan for Mother’s day. My mom and I got a lot of wedding planning done – including booking my hair and makeup team, putting all of the bouquets together (we used artificial flowers) and booking our “getting ready” space.

What else? The day after I got back to DC, my friend Maurica came for a visit. She stayed with us for a week and we did all sorts of touristy things. If you follow me on instagram, you’ll have seen some of our antics, I’m sure.

We to a number of different happy hours, because that’s what you do in D.C. Seriously. Going to dinner is so expensive that we normally just eat our dinner during happy hour. We hit up Lost Society for a rooftop happy hour on U Street the first night. I just love that place.

That lovely margarita is from a restaurant down the street from us in Del Ray, Los Tios. I’m serious when I say that we maximized our happy hour visits.

We also went to the National Mall on day. I forced her to go see my favorite monuments (Jefferson & FDR) as well as more popular ones like The Washington Monument and Lincoln.

We also spent an afternoon at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington.

We also spent a morning wandering around (and by wandering I mean getting lost) Arlington National Cemetery. We managed to make it to the Tomb of the Unknown Solider just in time for the Changing of the Guard. So that was pretty cool.

Our last large outing was hiking at Billy Goat Trail. We did the difficult trail (trail A) right after a rain storm, so it was a big tricky. The rocks were all super slick and our shoes kept sliding. It was still incredibly beautiful though. I’m sure I’ll go again.

After Maurica left, I headed up to Pennsylvania to spend Memorial Day with my sister, mom and nephew. We met there because it’s sort of in the middle – 4 hours of me, 8 hours for them.

I haven’t really gotten to spend a lot of time with my nephew since we moved, so that was great. Isn’t he just the cutest?

Ivan was in Arizona for the weekend, but we both got home on Tuesday. We’ve just been recouping the past few days. It’s been nuts.

SO that was my insanely busy May. I don’t think June will be quite as crazy, but you never know.

  1. So busy, but so fun! I’m jealous of all your DC pics. I’ve only been once and it was during the anthrax scare of 2001, so everything was closed. I need to go back ASAP!

  5. Hey there this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
