I was given this dutch oven in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
I’ve been on the hunt for a nice dutch oven for a while. I’m a huge fan of the “one pot dinner” and dutch ovens make that style of cooking so easy.
Like all of the calphalon contemporary pieces, this dutch oven is dishwasher safe. It is also nonstick and oven safe up to 450 degrees. It’s relatively lightweight for a dutch oven, which I like. I’m not a very strong person and it’s easy to move this around and pour liquids. It’s also extremely easy to clean and I haven’t had any issues with food sticking to the pan while cooking.
I’ve used the pan both in the oven and on the stovetop. On the stovetop, the pan heated quickly and evenly, even on my old electric stove. The only issue I’ve come around is that the lid doesn’t quite fit right. Well it does, but you have to get it on there just right. I have to turn it around a bit to find just the right spot for it to lay perfectly flat. You can see what i mean in the photo below. However, the lid is heavy and I haven’t noticed it bouncing when simmering. You know what I mean, right? I can’t stand it when lids bounce on top of the pot when simmering or boiling. Thankfully, even though the lid isn’t always snug, it doesn’t bounce.
I also wish that the handles would remain cool while cooking on the stovetop, but they do get pretty hot. However, honestly, I’ve never used a dutch oven/stock pot that stays cool. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but it would certainly be nice.
All in all, I’m a big fan of this dutch oven. It’s lightweight yet effective and easy to clean. It’s become my go-to pan because it’s so versatile. I’d certainly recommend it to others.
