On Friday night Ivan and I joined some friends out for a night out in DC. We went to The Mad Hatter in Adams Morgan. We had been there once before, but it was at about 9:30pm. There was hardly anyone in the bar, so we thought that’s how it always was. We wanted to meet up somewhere low key and then head to a different location. But when we got there we had to wait in line for a while to even get in. It was actually really packed and so we just decided to spend the evening there. I’d recommend it, it was definitely a fun atmosphere.
On Saturday we drove to Baltimore for the Gold Cup. It was our first time in the city, so we decided to go a bit early and have lunch somewhere. We stopped at Sip & Bite, where we tried our first crab cakes.
The Gold Cup was a lot of fun too. I’ve never been to a professional soccer game before and I didn’t really know what to expect. It was the semifinals and the US was playing Cuba. The United States won 6-0 .
It’s actually pretty cool. They make all their salsas in house and bake their empanadas – they don’t deep fry them. We ordered a meal for two – six empanadas, 4 dips & plantain chips.
After lunch we headed over to Meridian Hill Park to check out the drum circle. Every Sunday at 3:30 people from all over the city come to the park and play drums together. It’s said to have originated in 1965 after the assassination of Malcolm X.
I read about it a while ago, but this was the first time we made it down there. It was so energetic and full of life. There were quiet a few people playing, but there were also people dancing and just listening.
The park was gorgeous too. I had to snap a bunch of pictures. Ivan was sort of patient with me ;)
