Weekend Recap: Playing Tour Guide

These past few days have been insanely busy for us. My parents came down for a visit on Thursday and we’ve been go-go-go ever since. On Friday my parents and I went to the Outlet mall by the National Harbor. We spent the afternoon shopping and catching up. We found a few great deals at Under Armor & Nike.

Friday night the four of us went to dinner. We ended up at Clyde’s Gallery Place because we were able to get reservations on Open Table. I was shocked that I’d never heard of the restaurant before – it was absolutely gorgeous. If you’re ever in DC, I’d suggest giving it a try. The food was delicious and reasonably priced… for DC.

We finished the night up with a stroll along the National Mall after dark. We went to the Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam Memorial. It was my first time visiting the monuments at night and I’m really glad we decided to do it. It was absolutely beautiful and not nearly as crowded. Plus it had cooled off a lot.

on Saturday we went to the Smithsonian American History Museum. I’d been there before, but missed a few exhibits. Ivan and my dad went to each and every exhibit, but my mother and I only went to the ones we found interesting. My standout exhibits were the original “Star Spangled Banner”, Julia Child’s kitchen and the First Lady Inaugural Ball Gowns & China collections.

We had dinner at TD Burger, which is right down the street from us. I’ll be giving this place a full review soon, but the pizza gets two thumbs up from me. We ordered two pies; the White Pizza (Ricotta Cheese, Fried Egg, Melted Spinach, Garlic Confit) was my favorite.

Sunday morning we all went to brunch at Hawk N’ Dove. They had a waffle & omelet bar and I did some damage there. Then my parents and I went to Choral Evensong at the National Cathedral. It was my first time visiting the Cathedral and I took a million pictures. I’ve got a post coming tomorrow featuring all of my favorites.

We finished up the evening with dinner at Farmers Fishers Bakers in Georgetown. We had the Maryland Crab Dip for an appetizer and it was fantastic but I was a little bit disappointed with my pork belly tacos. Ivan seemed to really like them. They just a lot of strong competing flavors and it didn’t work for me. Everyone else loved their dinner though. I’ve been there before and really enjoyed it, so next time I’ll just order something else. 10 1

We sat out on the patio next to the fountain, since it was such a beautiful night. I loved watching the boats go by the harbor and the fountain change colors.

Tomorrow is my parents last full day and we’re doing a Capitol tour bright and early. It’s been a long, but fun weekend and I know I’ll miss having them here when they leave on Tuesday.

  • Oh, my gosh…these food pictures look amazing! I’m so glad y’all had such a great weekend, Sarah, and thanks so much for linking up with the blog!

  • I’ve lived near DC for 18 years and I can’t remember the last time I was on the Mall after dark. I may need to rectify that this summer! Looks like you guys covered the city quite handily in one weekend!
