Weekend Recap: The Eastern Market & The Nationals

Weekend Recap: The Eastern Market & The Nationals

We had a relatively busy weekend around here. On Friday night we met up with a guy that Ivan works with for his birthday. We went to this restaurant, Big Stick for drinks and appetizers and then headed to the Nationals game. It was my first time in the stadium and it’s quite impressive. We were up on one of the beer decks though, so I couldn’t really see the game. I want to go back and actually sit down and watch the game. It was a good time though and we met some great people.

After the game we met up with one of Ivan’s fraternity brothers and a few of his friends out in Dupont. We had a few drinks at Sauf Haus; a German Beer Garden. It was one of my favorite bars yet. They have a rooftop deck that had a live band and communal style seating. The band was playing lots of classic rock – the Eagles, Tom Petty… that sort of thing. I was digging it.

We ended the night right down the street at Lucky’s Bar. I wasn’t a huge fan of that one, but it may have been that it was just so late. It was pretty dirty, but after a long night, most bars are.

On the way home we discovered the joy of &Pizza. Have you never had &Pizza? It’s like a Chipotle… for Pizza. You get to completely customize your pizza in a fast-dining atmosphere. They are thin-crust, so they literally slide it through a conveyer belt like you see at hot sub sandwich places. The whole process takes about 5 minutes. It was amazing.

Then on Saturday morning/afternoon we headed down to the Eastern Market. I’ve been wanting to check it out and it was definitely a great way to spend an afternoon. I guess the indoor market is open all week long, but on weekends it expands. There are outside art vendors and a small farmers market too. We had lunch at La Plaza, because we were in the mood for some pupusas. Unfortunately, they were all out. I honestly wasn’t that impressed with my food and I wish we would have just had lunch at one of the stalls at the market. Oh well, you live and you learn. We did split a shake at the market though. It was AMAZING. For real, it was probably the best shake I’ve ever had. If you were find yourself at the market, do yourself a favor and go inside and grab a Cookies & Cream shake. You’ll thank me.

On Sunday I ran a few errands and then went to dinner and a movie with an old friend. We saw Pitch Perfect 2. I liked the first movie and the second was alright, but I feel like it missed the mark. It just wasn’t the same. I would still recommend seeing it, but maybe wait to redbox it.

  • That pizza place sounds amazing! We have a place similar to that, but not as speedy. Also, I’m super jealous of your market. That looks like an awesome place. Have a great week!

    • We don’t have anything like that pizza place back where I’m from in Michigan. I’m going to go allll the time this summer. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  • oh that pizza looks so good!! i wonder if there is one near us. we had a place kind of like that where they made pizza in front of you and put it through the conveyor thingy, but they closed a couple weeks ago :( so sad!

    • I’m surprised! I think it’s such a great concept… especially with all the places like Chipotle & Subway that are available right now. The fast-fresh thing is huge right now.

  • A chipotle for pizza?! You’ve got to be kidding me!! BRB.. googling the closest &Pizza to me! :)

    • I knowww. I was like “WHAT IS THIS MAGIC?”…. I am convinced they will pop up everywhere now.

  • What fun, Sarah!! That pizza looks…ahhhhh. :) I am a huge pizza addict, girl! Thanks so much for linking up with the blog; hope your Monday is going well!
